Ex-city banker goes back to basics at The Dairy House

Luxury and organic dairy produce company, The Dairy House has spent a week training up an ex-city worker for a one-off fly-on-the-wall documentary.

Filming for Can You Bank On Me? (BBC One, 9pm, Monday 24 August) followed two ex bankers as they worked for a week with businesses that have been on the receiving end of the recession, seeing first hand the knock-on effect of decisions made in the city on smaller companies.

28 year-old Amit, a former Senior Analyst for a large bank, was given a crash course in every aspect of the The Dairy House from milking company’s herd of Jersey cows at the crack of dawn to making and delivering the organic yoghurt, cream and cheese to some of the company’s outlets across the country.

As a whole, the food industry had remained unaffected by the recession although organic food sales have slowed as shoppers “trade down” and look for cheaper products. The Dairy House, however, refuses to become another statistic and is constantly adding more shops, cafes, restaurants and canteens to its list of customers.

The Dairy House at Borough Market

Despite all the doom and gloom, 2009 has got off to a good start in Weobley. After a five year wait, we are delighted to announce that we have been allocated a stall at London’s Borough Market. Borough is regarded as one of the UK’s top foodie destinations, so this is a particularly exciting opportunity for us to promote our products in London, and to hopefully raise Herefordshire’s gastronomic profile!

Do come along and pay us a visit in the Green Market area. We are there every Saturday from 9am – 4pm. For more information on the market, visit the website.

The Dairy House cheeses now available in a new pack size

Until now, our delicious range of organic cheeses were only available in 320g packs. But we're delighted to announce we've just launched another pack size: 200g. The perfect size for a cheeseboard, a picnic or just for giving a new cheese a try!
